MIRA IR AWARDS 2011
MIRA has initiated and conducted Malaysia’s first IR survey during the first quarter of 2011. This survey is a study on the effectiveness of the investor relations activities of a company listed on Bursa Malaysia. The survey, polling process and shortlisted companies are independently managed by Thomson Reuters Extel Survey. This is the most rigorous survey of sentiment amongst buy-side and sell-side analysts towards companies and it is a true benchmark to measure the effectiveness and quality of companies investor relations activities.
WHAT ARE THE OBJECTIVES?
- To recognize and acknowledge the best Investor Relations practice among listed companies in Malaysia.
- To give a true benchmark of excellence in Malaysia Investor Relations
- To honour companies who embrace the spirit of good corporate governance practice by promoting and transparency, timely, fair and ongoing disclosure
- To steer and motivate listed companies towards greater investor relations practice
- To provide an ideal opportunity to companies’ representatives to meet, learn and exchange view
HOW IT WAS DONE?
Questionaires
- A complied questionnaire will be sent via email to participants who are based locally and internationally.
- Provision of final results will be based on verified and weighted responses. This is to give validity to the findings, and to give greater value to votes from the more influential buy-side and sell-side institutions.
Study and scope
Question Categories - with separate rankings and results will be collected for the following corporate areas.
- Large Caps
- Medium Caps
- Small Caps
For each of these areas, there will be separate nominations for
- Best Company for IR
- Best IR Professional
- Best CEO for IR
- Best CFO for IR
- Best IR Website
- Best IR for an IPO
Participants
Over 700 buy-side and sell-side professionals globally were invited to participate in the survey. Only legitimate investment professionals investing in or covering Malaysia were included in the results. Investment professionals include those from asset management firms (of any proper type; long only, SWFs, wealth managers, private equity and hedge funds) and brokerage houses or research providers.
Voting Process
Each voter will only be allowed to vote once, and it will be allowable for any voter to give partial response only (i.e. they do not have to complete every part of the question categories in order for their nominations to be accepted). When voting they will be encouraged to submit multiple nominations, scoring firms/individuals in ranking order based on overall quality of knowledge, service and interaction.
Results Calculation
Once nominations have been received, checked and verified, at the close of the poll, calculation and compilation of results will be done. All nominations in each category will be treated separately, and used only to form the result for that category. There will not be any aggregation of nominations across various categories. Nominations from multiple individuals at the same firm will be consolidated to form a view from that firm. This eliminates any bias in voting.
